Accessibility

A cinematic site still has to be usable.

This site leans on motion and atmosphere. That is a design choice, not an excuse — it has to work with a keyboard, with a screen reader, and with motion turned off.

What is built in

  • Every animated sequence, including the opening sequence, respects your operating system's reduced-motion setting.
  • The opening sequence can be skipped with a visible button or the Escape key, and it is remembered on your device so it does not replay.
  • Interactive controls are reachable by keyboard in a sensible order and show a visible focus ring.
  • Interactive elements are sized for touch, and layouts are built for phone, tablet and desktop.
  • Colour is never the only way information is conveyed — status also carries a label.
  • Decorative visuals, including the environmental background and product marks, are hidden from screen readers so they do not add noise.
  • Product pages are ordinary pages: you can link straight to one without passing through the opening sequence.

If motion is a problem

Turn on “reduce motion” in your device's accessibility settings. The site reads that setting and drops animation, shortens the opening sequence, and calms the environmental background. You do not need to change anything on this site for that to take effect.

Where we stand

We build against the WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines as a working standard and test with a keyboard and a screen reader. We have not had an independent accessibility audit, so we do not claim conformance or certification. Some parts of this site — particularly the richest interactive demonstrations — are harder to use non-visually than the rest, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise.

Tell us what is blocking you

If something on this site or in a Labs product stops you from doing what you came to do, email billing.labs@sfgoc.org with “Accessibility” in the subject. Tell us the page, what you were using, and what happened. We treat access barriers as defects, not requests.

Other kinds of message have their own routes on the contact page.
